Frequently Asked Questions About Your Treatment

Q. How should I prepare?
A. Please try to arrive at least 10 minutes prior to your appointment time so that you may fill out the appropriate forms.

If you're having a massage, the special oils are imported from India and have been prepared with herbs for weeks at a time. They are very aromatic, so please don't wear perfume, aftershave or strongly scented lotions that may interfere with the treatment.

Q. What about eating and drinking?
A. To get the full benefits of your massage or body treatment, it is best to eat at least 2 hours prior. If you need something closer to the treatment time, try a piece of fruit.

For the steam treatments, it is recommended that you drink approximately 1 gallon of water in the 24 hours following your treatment....and at least half of that gallon in the 4-6 hours after your treatment.

Q.What should I wear?
A.Please dress to your comfort....and don't wear anything of value just in case a drop of oil gets on your clothes following the treatment.

Though there is a shower for your comfort and convenience, you might want to leave the oil in your hair for a few hours, as is the tradition in India.

Q. How often should I get a treatment?
A. It depends on the individual and your personal situation, but it is highly recommended to receive a treatment at least once a month. Twice a month would be even more beneficial. During a difficult or particularly stressful time, a weekly massage can be a lifesaver.

There are some treatments that are very valuable when received as a series. Such as shirodhara for 5 days in a row.....or once a week for a number of weeks.

My clients tell me that just walking into my treatment room with its familiar sights, sounds and smells seems to trigger a remembering response allowing the new treatment to start off where the last one ended...a kind of accumulative effect....and they find that this is even more potent with regular treatments.

Q. What if I am pregnant?
A. Please check with your doctor but in general, massage therapy is recommended after the first trimester.

Q. What if I have some medical conditions?
A. It is always best to check with your doctor. Please include your current medical conditions on the registration form. Some conditions are contraindicated for certain treatments.

For the choice of oils and herbs, your medical conditions are relevant.

Q. What happens after a session?
A. After your treatment, you will be able to relax quietly on the massage table for a few minutes, experiencing calmness and deep nourishment.

One of the most precious elements of a treatment with your time to settle, relax and reflect. You will not feel rushed.

You may redress or choose to shower. There are organic body soaps, shampoos and conditioners, as well as towels, for your convenience.

You will then be invited to rest for a few more minutes  with a cup of herbal tea or water, so that you can softly transition to the more active rhythms of daily life.

Especially after shirodhara or netra basti treatments, I would prefer for you to refrain from sensory input from computers, cell phones, TV's and stressfull situations, if at all possible!!
