According to Ayurveda, breath is actually an important food!!! By breathing, we feed every cell of our body with vitality every second of every day,
Breathing is the only way we have to get oxygen to our brains and our organs. and to remove waste products and toxins from our body.
Most of us breathe too fast and too shallow due to our hectic lives and the stress that we live with day in and day out.
Breathing is an art, as well as a science. Different forms of breathing exercises affect each of us in different ways. Learning how to breathe best for your type can be one of the most beneficial parts of your healing journey.
Just as in everything Ayurveda, there are certain breathing techniques that will balance different body-mind types and a program that keeps your needs in mind will be in your best interest.
For example, if you are the person with a lot of heat, a cooling breath where you breath in and out through a rolled up tongue can be quite effective for you. There is a fire breath that forces the exhalation phase of breathing and this can warm up and stimulate you if you are a more sedentary person. And for the fast moving, lighter types a breathing technique where you alternate between the nostrils is soothing for you.
We will want to start slowly and practice regularly. Focused breathing can be the catalyst for some of the biggest changes in your journey to wellness.
